Joyce Vineyard Chardonnay 2022

On the ridge just above Freestone Valley, linked together in chilly fog, sits Joyce Vineyard. Ernest leased and began farming the site organically in 2017. At only 3-acres and planted entirely to Chardonnay, it the smallest property we farm and one of the very coldest. Goldridge soil predominates and Clone 5 of Chardonnay will perennially deliver citrus flavors and bright acidity in this environment.
A bright pale wine; clean, and clear, immediately suggesting its maritime origin. This hillside vineyard is one of Ernest’s coolest sites and it demonstrates that with shy notes of citric fruits, citric blossom, and a touch of salinity. The aromas are subdued and clean with uncanny freshness and minerality on the forefront, and the flavors are spot on as well. The light alcohol levels make it easy to pick out nuances of fruit and flower throughout.
The acidity and minerality go hand-in-hand with the bright flavors of lemons, and unripe pears leaving you with a healthy amount of salivation.
